Services

There are different stages of editing—developmental (structural) editing, line editing, copy editing, and proofreading—and different types of editors who specialize in each stage. So, knowing what changes your manuscript need will help determine which service/ services you require.

As a certified editor, I can assure you your manuscript will be well edited. You can deliver your document in a .doc or .docx file for Microsoft Word. I use the Microsoft Word’s Track Changes feature to track all suggested edits. You can also deliver your manuscript in a PDF file if you want your edits in Google Docs.

Below is a brief description of the services I provide. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Line Editing

A sentence-by-sentence edit that considers word choice and sentence structure for clarity and flow. During this phase of editing, I can make adjustments to the words and rewrite any sentence or section as needed so the tone and message connect with the reader. Line editing is the second step in the editing process. It is done before copyediting and proofreading.
As a line editor I will:

•Go line by line to ensure there is good flow so the content is easy to understand.
•Edit and rewrite what is necessary while preserving your voice.
•Remove unnecessary repetition for a tighter reading experience.
•Fill in gaps that could confuse the reader.

Copy Editing

The process of checking for inconsistencies, grammar and spelling mistakes, and repetition. This stage is done before proofreading.
As a copy editor I will:

•Check for errors in grammar, spelling, and syntax.
•Make sure the project is consistent with your style guide.
•Fact-check.
•Provide feedback on sentence structure.
•Review a draft that has already gone through rounds of structural editing.
•Improve clarity and flow.

Proofreading

The most basic and final review of your document. It is generally needed when a manuscript has been through a round of copy editing, and the writer needs one last set of eyes to review the document before submission or publishing.
As a proofreader I will:

•Edit the final draft.
•Check for inconsistencies.
•Correct grammatical and spelling errors.
•Check for formatting errors.
